Kory Casto - Player of the Month

Potomac Nationals third Baseman Kory Casto was voted the Carolina League’s Topps Player of the Month for July in a poll of the managers.Casto batted a league-best .413 (43 for 104) in 28 July games. He also had a league-best 11 home runs and 27 RBI during the month.Cumulatively through games of Wednesday, Casto is among the league’s top 10 hitters at .305 and is in the top five in home runs (20) and RBI (74). His 53 extra-base hits ties him for the league lead in that category, and he is second in hits with 121. The left-hand hitting Casto was drafted in the third round in 2003 out of the University of Portland. The 23-year-old resident of Aurora, Ore., had a career .270 batting average in two previous pro seasons at Vermont (New York-Penn) and Savannah (South Atlantic).
