Player of the Week (June 27-July 3)

Frank Diaz from Potomac of the Carolina League (High A) was named Minor League player of the week. In 4 games: 8/18 with 4 runs, 3 doubles, 2HR, 6RBI, and 0SB; BA 0.444; SLG 0.944 Like everyone else in the Carolina League, Potomac center fielder Frank Diaz was often overshadowed by Winston-Salem's Leo Daigle, who won the league's Offensive Player of the Week honors in four of the first ten weeks and three straight times before his promotion to Charlotte. But since Daigle's departure, Diaz has begun to establish himself as the premier hitter in the Carolina League, winning the award for two consecutive weeks. The recent XM Satellite Radio All-Star Futures Game selection led Potomac to four straight wins last week, and five consecutive overall. The 21-year-old Venezuelan hit .444 with three doubles, two homers and six RBIs on the week. On the season, he leads the league in doubles (25) and is second in hits (97) and extra-base hits (39) behind only Daigle. Diaz also ranks second in triples (five) and eighth in average (.305).
